Queen Charlotte College is a secondary school with over 50 staff and 390 students, idyllically placed at the entrance way to Marlborough Sounds, in the South Island of New Zealand. Eager to find a partner that supported their environmental ambitions and who could deliver a better all-around managed print service, Queen Charlotte College reached out to Brother.
Before working with Brother, Queen Charlotte College had been oversupplied with A3 copiers that weren’t getting enough use to warrant the spend. Working to reduce waste, but with printing still essential to the day-to-day running of the school, they were looking for a cost-effective, sustainable print solution that integrated their existing print management software.
Brother analysed the school’s recent print usage in order to provide an accurate scope of volumes and requirements down to each office and classroom. This ensured fit-for-purpose devices were matched to staff and student needs to maximise productivity and savings.
Brother was able to replace underutilised A3 devices for more compact and efficient, Brother A4 laser printers and multifunction devices. Where A3 printing was used frequently, like in the copy room and student learning centre, Konica Minolta bizhub C300i and C550i A3 multifunction devices were installed. All devices were setup on PaperCut, the college’s existing print management software.
Through right-sizing Queen Charlotte College’s print fleet, Brother was able to deliver cost savings of 58% per year in comparison to the school’s previous print provider - freeing up expenditure for more critical areas, such as more supplies for students. The college was also predicted to see a 37.4% reduction per year in CO2 emissions thanks to their new set up.1
The migration to Managed Print Services was facilitated smoothly, so the school was not left short of access to printing at any point, and Brother’s Service Delivery team handled the delivery and setup of all print equipment on site. Queen Charlotte College has ongoing access to Brother’s 24/7 NZ-based Helpdesk for technical support, plus on-site maintenance and servicing. Automated consumables also mean the school will never be caught short of replacement toner, and thanks to Brother’s recycling programme, they can responsibly recycle used cartridges with complete peace of mind.

"From the outset, Brother took the time to really understand our needs. They provided a tailored solution with our interests at heart, ticking every box including integration with our software. Their pricing was transparent, and we liked the print technology too – for us it was the whole package."
"The transition was seamless, and best of all, the cost savings are significant. We are very surprised at how much we have saved with Brother. We’ve been able to repurpose that expenditure elsewhere in the school, which really benefits our students."
"Their commitment to sustainability is a big part of what drew us to Brother, too. We use their free recycling programme to easily recycle our old cartridges, knowing they won’t end up in landfill."
- Betty Whyte, Queen Charlotte College Principal
