Corporate Social Responsibility

Caring for the planet; caring for people

Brother takes Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to heart. CSR means our bottom line goes beyond economics. We believe that what we do won’t be good for Brother if it isn’t also good for the environment and for our customers and employees.

Brother’s Global Charter

Our CSR principles are reflected in the Brother Group Global Charter, which was crafted in 1999 based on the concept of "Tomoiki" (co-existence).

Our employees base their decisions and actions on the guidelines set out in the Brother Group Global Charter, which has policies centered on: “commitment to quality”, “customer first” and “care for the environment”.

In order to live and breathe these responsibilities, Brother has implemented an extensive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) management programme. We have led the way on many of the employee and environmental CSR initiatives in the print industry.

We recognise that CSR is a journey. To us, it is a fulfillment of our motto "At Your Side". We’re proud to undertake this journey because we know that we’re creating an organisation that our stakeholders can respect and our employees can be proud of.

Recycling

Our comprehensive recycling programme ensures you can access a variety of free and responsible pathways for recycling your empty consumables and old print hardware. Operating since 2008 with the support of certified e-waste specialists, Recycling Group, Brother has made recycling simple and easy.

Recycling your old products helps to close the loop, giving new life to old materials. Together, we can support a greener tomorrow, one responsible choice at a time.

We’re proud to be Eco Choice Aotearoa certified for selected products. This is New Zealand's official environmental label, initiated and endorsed by the New Zealand Government, although independently operated, and recognises the increasing effort of manufacturers to reduce the environmental impact of their products.

We strive to create environmentally friendly products. Brother Printers and MFC's have a printing system that reduces consumables wastage. Users no longer have to throw away a drum or inkjet print head every time they empty the toner or ink cartridge. Toners and ink cartridges can be replaced separately. Newer models also have a draft print mode to reduce the amount of toner or ink required for standard prints.

We've partnered with Trees That Count

TreesThatCount_supporter-CSR-sitecore

We have a goal to fund a minimum of 500 native trees each year as part of our Managed Print Services offering to business customers. It's estimated that 500 trees are expected to remove more than 110 tonnes of COemissions from the atmosphere over a 50-year period as the trees grow.

Our partnership with Trees That Count aligns to Brother's global commitment to Sustainable Development Goals, a series of goals adopted by all United Nations Member States that define global priorities and aspirations for 2030. These goals provide a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet now and into the future.
